Flip-flop

nounStandard termElectronics

A bistable logic circuit that stores a single bit of binary data.

A sequential logic circuit made from interconnected logic gates that maintains one of two stable states until an external clock or control signal triggers it to change. They are the fundamental building blocks of digital memory, shift registers, and counters. Common types include D, T, SR, and JK flip-flops, each responding differently to input conditions upon a clock edge.
