A complete computing system that uses a microprocessor for its CPU, alongside separate memory chips and input/output interfaces. Originally coined to distinguish desktop-sized machines from massive mainframes and minicomputers, the term primarily describes the architectural generation where the entire processor fit onto one silicon chip.
The lab still uses an old 8-bit microcomputer to run the automated test sequence for those legacy relays.

- Microcontroller: A microcomputer uses a separate microprocessor, memory, and I/O chips, whereas a microcontroller integrates all these functions onto a single chip.
