Multiplexer

nounStandard termElectronics

A digital switch that routes one of several input signals to a single output line based on control signals.

A multiplexer acts as an electronic selector switch, taking multiple analog or digital input lines and forwarding a selected one to a single output line. The active input is chosen by applying a specific binary code to the device's control or select pins. It is heavily used in data routing, memory addressing, and reducing the number of physical connections required in complex circuit board designs.
