Demultiplexer

nounStandard termElectronics

A logic device that routes a single input signal to one of several output lines.

A digital switch that takes a single data input and distributes it to multiple outputs based on the value of a set of select lines. If a demultiplexer has three select lines, it can route the input to one of eight distinct outputs. They are heavily used in address decoding and routing serial data to parallel destinations.
