Blockout

nounStandard termConcrete

A physical barrier placed inside formwork to create a void in the finished concrete.

A temporary structure built into a concrete form to keep mud out of a specific area. Once the concrete cures and the forms are stripped, the resulting void allows for the later installation of plumbing, electrical conduits, anchor bolts, or structural connections. Foam, wood boxes, and steel sleeves are commonly used.
