Rigaree

nounStandard termCeramics & Glass

A decorative band of parallel grooves applied to the surface of blown glass.

A textured, ribbon-like glass trail applied to a vessel and stamped with a patterned metal wheel to create parallel ridges or scores. It is often wrapped around the neck, base, or stem of a glass piece to add grip and visual complexity. The metal tool used to make the impression is also sometimes called a rigaree wheel.

Heard on the job

We need to apply a rigaree collar around the neck of this decanter while it's still hot enough to take the impression.
