A long, extruded or hand-rolled cylinder of soft clay.

A thick, elongated cylinder of plastic clay used to build up the walls of a vessel or add structural reinforcement. Ropes can be rolled out by hand on a canvas table or pushed through an extruder for a uniform diameter. They are the fundamental building block in coil pottery construction.
