Bejmat

nounStandard termCeramics & Glass

A traditional Moroccan rectangular clay tile, typically unglazed, used for paving and flooring.

A specific type of hand-molded clay tile originating from Morocco, characterized by its rectangular shape and rugged, unglazed surface. Artisans shape local clay by hand, dry it in the sun, and fire it in traditional kilns, resulting in natural variations in color ranging from pale terracotta to deep pink. These tiles are traditionally laid in herringbone or basketweave patterns for outdoor patios and heavy-traffic floors.
