A condition in glassmaking where the material develops small, hard, stony inclusions or speckles throughout its structure. This occurs when the glass begins to crystallize, a process called devitrification, usually due to incorrect cooling rates or holding the melt at a specific temperature for too long. The speckles compromise both the optical clarity and the structural integrity of the finished piece.
