Overfired

adjectiveStandard termCeramics & Glass

Describes a ceramic piece that has been subjected to excessive heat or prolonged firing.

Pieces in this state exhibit severe defects such as slumping, bloating, blistered glazes, or complete structural collapse. The clay body has progressed too far into vitrification, losing its structural integrity and melting. These pieces are typically discarded, and they often damage kiln furniture in the process.
