Pony wall

nounStandard termBuilding

A short interior or exterior wall that does not extend entirely from the floor to the ceiling.

A framed wall constructed to a partial height, typically serving as a room divider, a guardrail around a stairwell, or a base for columns. Because it does not tie into the ceiling joists, it relies entirely on its floor connection and internal blocking for lateral stability.

Heard on the job
