To build out a wall or ceiling surface using thin strips to achieve a plumb or level finish.

The process of extending an existing framing or masonry surface outward by attaching wood or metal strips. Carpenters fur out walls to correct out-of-plumb studs, match the depth of thicker adjacent materials, or provide clearance for plumbing and electrical lines.
