Masher

nounStandard termBrewing

A mechanical device or vessel component used to mix milled grain and water.

A mechanical agitator or specialized vessel used to mix crushed grain with hot liquor to create mash. In commercial breweries and distilleries, the masher ensures even hydration of the grist and prevents dough balls from forming.
