Trafficator

nounStandard termAutomotive

A historic mechanical turn signal that flips out from the side of a vehicle.

An older, mechanical directional indicator used before flashing electrical turn signals became standard. It consists of a small, illuminated semaphore arm that swings out horizontally from the vehicle's B-pillar to signal a turn. They are highly prized and meticulously restored by classic car enthusiasts.

Heard on the job

The wiring to the left trafficator is shorting out, so the arm won't pop up when you hit the switch.
