Indicator

nounStandard termAutomotive

The flashing amber light on a vehicle used to signal a turn or lane change.

A signaling device located on the front, rear, and sometimes sides of a vehicle that flashes to communicate a driver's intention to turn or change lanes. The system operates via a flasher relay or body control module that cycles the bulbs on and off. Checking these lights is a standard part of any roadworthiness inspection.

Heard on the job

The left rear indicator is blinking fast, so you probably have a burnt-out bulb up front.
