Jointer

nounStandard termWoodworking

A woodworking machine or long hand plane used to create a perfectly flat and square edge on a board.

A stationary power tool featuring an infeed table, an outfeed table, and a rotating cutterhead, used to flatten the face of a board and square its edge. The term also applies to a very long hand plane designed to true up long edges before edge-gluing. The machine relies on the outfeed table being perfectly flush with the top dead center of the cutting knives.
