A mechanical drilling guide equipped with hardened steel bushings set at a shallow angle, usually around 15 degrees. It clamps securely onto a workpiece and directs a stepped drill bit to bore a clean, angled hole without the bit wandering. The jig ensures the hole stops at the exact depth required to hide the screw head while leaving enough wood to hold the joint tight.
Heard on the job
Clamp the pocket-hole jig to the end of the rail and bore two holes for the face frame assembly.
Insider tip
Always set the stop collar on your drill bit to match the thickness of your material before using the jig, or you will drill straight through the board.
