To deposit a layer of wear-resistant alloy onto a softer base metal using welding.

Hardfacing involves applying a specialized, tough filler metal over a component subject to severe abrasion, impact, or erosion. Welders lay down overlapping stringer beads of high-carbon or chromium-carbide alloys onto parts like excavator buckets, crusher rolls, or drill bits. This process significantly extends the service life of expensive industrial equipment.
