ELD

abbreviationStandard termWaterproofing

Electronic leak detection, using a small electric current to pinpoint breaches in a membrane.

Electronic leak detection methods put a voltage across a membrane and look for where current escapes through a hole to a grounded deck, either by low-voltage mapping over a wetted surface or high-voltage scanning of an exposed dry membrane. ELD locates pinpoint breaches that a flood test would only show as a leak somewhere below. It requires a conductive deck or a conductive layer under the membrane.

Heard on the job

Skip the flood test, the deck can't take the load. We'll ELD it and patch whatever the scan finds.
