Lube tag

nounShop talkTribology

Color- or shape-coded label at a fill point that tells techs exactly which lubricant goes in.

An identification tag, plate or cap mounted at each lubrication point and matched to the same color or symbol on storage containers, grease guns and top-up jugs. Tags typically carry the product, quantity and frequency. A tag system is the cheapest defense against mixing lubricants, especially when contractors, temps or new hires walk the route.

Heard on the job
