Standard abrasive wear test (ASTM G65) in which a flat coated specimen is pressed against a rotating rubber-rimmed steel wheel while a controlled stream of rounded quartz sand flows between them. After a set number of revolutions the mass loss is converted to volume loss in cubic millimeters, so materials of different density can be compared. It is used to rank wear coatings and to qualify carbide and hardfacing products.
New powder lost twice the volume on the dry sand rubber wheel test, we're not switching suppliers.
