Rework cycle in which the old coating is removed by chemical stripping, grinding, grit blasting or high-pressure waterjet, the part is inspected, then reprepared and recoated. It is routine in turbine overhaul and for production parts that fail a coupon or show defects. Stripping must not attack the base metal, so chemistries, times and masking are qualified for each coating and substrate pair.
