Maarad

nounStandard termTextiles

A historic, long-staple Egyptian cotton variety known for its strength and luster.

A high-quality strain of Egyptian cotton developed from American Pima seed. It produces a very long, fine, and strong staple fiber with a distinct brownish tint. Spinners value it for creating smooth, durable, and highly lustrous yarns used in premium textiles and sewing threads, though it has largely been superseded by newer cultivars.

Heard on the job

The mill acquired a rare bale of Maarad to spin into high-tensile thread for the heritage denim line.
