Darning repairs holes or worn areas in fabric by weaving a grid of threads across the gap. The sewer anchors vertical warp threads around the edges of the hole, then weaves horizontal weft threads over and under them to create a new patch of fabric. It is heavily used on knitted garments like socks and sweaters where a standard seam would pucker or rub.
You can darn the heel of those wool socks before the thinning turns into a blowout.
Use a darning mushroom or egg inside the item to keep the tension even while you weave.
