Spudger

nounShop talkTelecom & IT

A non-conductive hand tool used for manipulating small wires and opening electronic device casings.

Technicians rely on this plastic or nylon stick to pry apart snap-fit bezels, seat delicate ribbon cables, and guide individual wires into punch-down blocks. Because it is non-conductive, it allows workers to probe live circuits without risking a short. The classic telecom version features a wire-catching hook on one end and a flat notched blade on the other.

Heard on the job

Hand me a spudger so I can pop this laptop bezel off without snapping the plastic retention clips.
