DOCSIS is the international telecommunications standard that permits the addition of high-speed data transfer to existing hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) infrastructure. It dictates the modulation schemes, frequency allocation, and error correction required to push gigabit internet speeds through standard cable TV lines. Cable operators upgrade their headend equipment and customer modems to newer DOCSIS versions to increase bandwidth and reduce latency.
We're upgrading the node to DOCSIS 3.1 next week to support the new gigabit tier.
