A monolithic with less moisture and less plasticity than a plastic refractory, installed by ramming thin layers with pneumatic tools to high density. It forms induction furnace linings, hearths, troughs and spouts, and sinters into a hard lining on first heating. Uniform layer thickness and full compaction matter, because poorly rammed layers delaminate and let metal through.
Put the ramming mix in two-inch lifts and scratch each one before the next goes in, or it'll peel apart.
