A ready-mixed refractory with the consistency of stiff clay, supplied in plastic-wrapped slabs and rammed into place with an air hammer, layer by layer, against anchors. It is clay- or phosphate-bonded, tolerates thermal cycling well and is a favorite for burner openings, boiler repairs and patching. Before heat-up it must be vented by poking small holes through the face so steam can escape.
Pound the plastic refractory in from the anchors out, then vent it on six-inch centers before you trim.
Keep plastic sealed and cool until use. Once it dries out in the wrapper it will not ram into a dense lining.
