The process or location of sorting freight cars by their final destination.

The systematic sorting of mixed freight cars into specific blocks or trains based on their destinations. While technically a French term for a classification yard, North American railroaders use it informally to describe the act of breaking down an inbound manifest train and routing the individual cars to the correct outbound tracks.
