Pass

nounStandard termRailroad

A maneuver where a faster train overtakes a slower one traveling in the same direction.

A traffic movement orchestrated by the dispatcher where a slower train is routed into a siding or an adjacent track so a higher-priority train can overtake it. This requires careful timing to ensure the slower train clears the mainline without forcing the faster train to reduce speed.
