Motor bogie

nounStandard termRailroad

A swiveling wheel assembly on a locomotive or railcar that contains built-in traction motors.

A heavy-duty truck assembly mounted under a locomotive or self-propelled car that houses the electric traction motors geared directly to the axles. It supports the weight of the car body while providing the driving force to the rails. These units are designed to pivot independently to negotiate curves while transmitting massive torque.
