A large electric motor mounted on the truck of a diesel-electric or fully electric locomotive, responsible for converting electrical energy into mechanical rotation. Each motor is typically geared directly to a single wheel axle. The main diesel engine spins an alternator to generate electricity, which is then fed to these motors to physically propel the train. They are built to withstand massive torque, heat, and vibration.
We had to cut out the number three traction motor because it grounded out during the rainstorm.
