Computer-based interlocking replaces older mechanical levers and electrical relays with microprocessors to control switches and signals. The system software evaluates track circuits and dispatcher commands, instantly locking out any route requests that would cause a collision or derailment. Signal maintainers troubleshoot these setups using diagnostic laptops rather than tracing physical wire circuits.
The CBI dropped the signal on us out of nowhere, so the dispatcher is talking us past the red.
