Car body

nounStandard termRailroad

The main structural enclosure of a rail vehicle that holds the payload.

The physical superstructure of a railcar or locomotive that sits directly above the frame and trucks. It forms the primary enclosure for freight, passengers, or internal machinery. Car knockers inspect the car body for structural integrity, side-sill damage, and securement to the underframe.
