The operating room of a locomotive, housing the engineer's controls, the conductor's desk, and the radio equipment. It provides shelter for the crew and is heavily reinforced for crash protection. On diesel locomotives, it is usually located near the front, while on steam locomotives it sits at the rear behind the firebox.
