Block post

nounStandard termRailroad

A manned location that controls the signals governing entry into a specific section of track.

A physical station or signal tower where an operator controls the signals that permit trains to enter a block section. The operator communicates with the adjacent posts to ensure only one train occupies the track segment at a time. In automated railroading, physical posts have mostly been consolidated into centralized dispatching centers.
