A lithographic or photomechanical printing process that reproduces continuous tones without breaking the image down into a grid of halftone dots. Instead of using a traditional halftone screen, it relies on the random grain of the printing plate's light-sensitive coating to hold varying amounts of ink, producing exceptionally smooth gradients and high-resolution details.
