A sample print pulled directly from the production press during the make-ready process. It is used to verify color accuracy, registration, and overall quality before authorizing the full production run. Because it uses the actual plates, inks, and paper intended for the job, it is the most accurate representation of the final product.
The client is waiting in the lobby to sign off on the press proof, so bring me a good sheet as soon as you get up to color.
Pulling a press proof is expensive because it ties up the production machine; many shops now rely on calibrated digital proofs instead.
