Catchline

nounStandard termPrinting

A temporary heading set at the top of a galley proof to identify the job, author, or section.

During the typesetting process, compositors add a brief line of text at the top of a column or page of raw type to keep track of the material before final pagination. It usually contains the client name, publication date, or article slug. This line is strictly for internal shop organization and must be pulled out of the form before the final press run.
