Wrinkle finish

nounStandard termPowder Coating

Textured powder that cures into a fine wrinkled pattern, hiding substrate flaws and fingerprints.

Wrinkle powders cure the surface faster than the layer below, so the skin buckles into a regular rippled texture. Related textures include fine sand, hammertone and river or vein finishes. Textures hide weld marks, scratches and casting roughness and need little cosmetic prep, but they collect dirt, are hard to touch up and change appearance with film build and oven profile.

Heard on the job

Put the welded brackets in the black wrinkle, nobody will see the grind marks.

Insider tip

Run a wrinkle at the film build the supplier lists, because too thin and it never wrinkles, too thick and the pattern goes coarse and stops matching the sample.
