Launder

nounStandard termMining

An inclined trough or channel used to transport water, slurry, or crushed ore by gravity.

A wooden, metal, or concrete flume used in mineral processing plants to convey liquid suspensions of ore from one stage of the circuit to another. Gravity does the work of moving the slurry, making launders a simple and energy-efficient way to feed thickeners, flotation cells, or tailings ponds.

Heard on the job

Check the overflow launder on the primary thickener, it looks like it might be backing up with froth.
