No-go

adjectiveShop talkMetrology

The side of a fixed limit gauge that must not fit into or over a part.

The portion of a limit gauge designed to reject a part if it fits. In a go/no-go inspection, the no-go gauge verifies that a machined feature has not exceeded its maximum or minimum allowable tolerance. If the no-go pin enters the hole, the part is oversized and fails inspection.

Heard on the job

The pin gauge dropped right through the bore on the no-go side, so the whole batch is scrap.
