Verification

nounStandard termMetrology

A check that an item is good enough for its stated requirements, usually ending in pass or fail with no full calibration data.

A pass or fail check backed by measurements, such as confirming a balance reads within ±0.1 g at three test loads or that a CMM passes an interim check against an artifact. It usually covers fewer points than a full calibration and records a verdict rather than a full data set. Many labs run quick daily verifications between full calibrations to catch problems early.
