Coarsely crushed iron ore prepared for traditional direct reduction.

An older smelting term for iron ore that has been roasted and crushed into a coarse powder. This material was specifically prepared for charging into a Catalan forge, where it would be reduced directly into wrought iron without melting into liquid pig iron first.
