Bleed hole

nounStandard termMechanical

A small, intentional opening designed to equalize pressure or vent trapped fluids from a system.

A precisely drilled orifice in a mechanical or fluid system that allows a controlled amount of air, gas, or liquid to escape. It prevents pressure buildup, eliminates trapped air pockets in hydraulic lines, or prevents vacuum locks in enclosed spaces. In pneumatic systems, these orifices ensure that actuators return to their neutral state safely when power is removed.
