Fastening two pieces of rope side-by-side, or securing a rope to a spar, by wrapping them tightly with a smaller cord called seizing stuff. The wraps are pulled taut and finished with crossing turns to lock the tension. This prevents lines from slipping or chafing under heavy loads and is a fundamental technique in traditional rigging.
