The anchor rode is the complete physical connection between a boat and its anchor, transferring the holding power from the seabed to the vessel's bow. It can consist entirely of galvanized chain, entirely of nylon rope, or a combination of both spliced together. The weight and elasticity of the rode are critical for absorbing shock loads from wind and waves while keeping the anchor shank pulled flat against the bottom.
