A nip point is a mechanical hazard created when two rotating parts move toward each other, or when a moving part passes close to a stationary object. In fire apparatus and rescue operations, these pinch hazards exist on winch drums, pump belts, and aerial ladder mechanisms. Firefighters must keep loose gear, lanyards, and fingers clear to prevent severe crushing or amputation injuries.
