Active-matrix organic light-emitting diode is a display technology where each pixel generates its own light and is controlled by an integrated thin-film transistor (TFT) array. This active matrix allows for faster refresh rates and precise current control compared to passive-matrix designs. Because pixels can be turned completely off, these panels achieve true black levels and high contrast ratios without needing a backlight.
We need to update the power budget since the new AMOLED panel draws significantly less current when displaying dark UI themes.
Burn-in remains a primary reliability concern for these displays, especially when rendering static interface elements at high brightness over long periods.
