Low wire

nounStandard termElectricians

A cable carrying low-voltage electrical power for control or data systems.

Wiring designed to carry power at fifty volts or less, typically used for thermostats, doorbells, security systems, and data networks. Because the shock and fire risks are minimal, these cables often have fewer code restrictions regarding conduit and box enclosures than standard line-voltage wiring.

Heard on the job

Keep the low wire separated from the power runs so we don't get interference on the data lines.
